(Providence, RI) -- A firm is being fined by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for an improper donation made to the campaign of Governor Gina Raimondo. The SEC says an associate at California-based Oaktree Capital made the one-thousand-dollar contribution in 2014 despite the fact that the company provided advisory services for the state's public pension plan, in violation of pay-to-play laws. A spokesperson for Raimondo's campaign says the contribution was returned after it was flagged. Oaktree has agreed to pay a fine of 100-thousand dollars.
