(Providence, RI) -- Rhode Island General Treasurer Seth Magaziner is calling for new transparency requirements for pension plans managed by religious organizations. Magaziner joined retired members of the Saint Joseph Health Services of Rhode Island pension plan to call on lawmakers to craft a new bill. Magaziner called it unacceptable what is happening to those retirees, whose pension plan is in receivership. Plan members are involved in a class-action lawsuit against Bishop Thomas Tobin, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence and the hospital operators.
