(Providence, RI) -- A former Providence police officer is headed to prison for two years. Jesse Ferrell pleaded guilty on Monday to possession of a firearm after a previous conviction of a violent crime and obtaining property under false pretenses. Ferrell was arrested earlier this year for allegedly using an old but still-active police department gas card to fill up his tank with thousands of dollars of gas, and police said an illegal firearm was found in his Central Falls apartment. Ferrell was fired by the city of Providence for stealing newspaper coupons from The Providence Journal.
