(Providence, RI) -- Providence-based United Natural Foods is acquiring grocery company Supervalu. The purchase, announced on Thursday, is for nearly three-billion dollars and includes the assumption of outstanding debt. Supervalu, headquartered in Minnesota, is one of the largest grocery wholesalers and retailers in the United States. United Natural Foods is the primary distributor for Whole Foods Market.
