Tobin Talks About Serving In Pennsylvania Diocese

(Providence, RI)  --  Providence Catholic Diocese Bishop Thomas Tobin is providing information about his role at a diocese in Pittsburgh where there were allegations of sexual abuse.  The diocese was one of six in the state of Pennsylvania which was named in a grand jury report released last week detailing a cover-up effort by Catholic Church officials on decades of child abuse by hundreds of priests involving more than a thousand victims.  The Providence Journal reports Tobin, who served as auxiliary bishop from 1992 to 1996, said his responsibilities at the diocese did not include handling clergy.  The Journal also reports Governor Gina Raimondo and three other candidates for governor are supporting the growing campaign to extend the statute of limitations involving child sex crimes in the wake of the Pennsylvania grand jury report.
