(Undated) -- Arizona Senator John McCain's Rhode Island colleagues are commenting on his passing. The former presidential candidate and Naval officer who was a prisoner of war in Vietnam died on Saturday after a battle with brain cancer. Senator Jack Reed, who served on the Senate Armed Services Committee with McCain, who was the chairman from 2015 to 2018, said in a statement that America lost a true patriot and one of the most unique, hard-charging legislators in modern American history. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse said he will miss McCain dearly but also criticized President Trump, tweeting that McCain represented a better politics and a better America than the current administration does.
