(Providence, RI) -- The state of Rhode Island is responding to a lawsuit filed by the trucking industry over the state's new highway-tolling system. A motion filed by the Rhode Island Attorney General's office on Friday asks a federal judge to dismiss the case because federal court doesn't have the right to tell a state how to issue taxes. The American Trucking Association filed the suit last month, arguing the two trucks-only tolls already in place -- on Interstate 95 -- and 14 more to come are discriminatory and a violation of the commerce clause of the U.S. Constitution.
