Snow Could Be Small Disruption In North Smithfield

(North Smithfield, RI)  --  North Smithfield is looking to become the first school district in Rhode Island to provide "virtual snow days" to students.  Under the terms of a law passed last year, school districts in the state can provide up to three days of virtual instruction when they have to burn a snow day.  WPRI-TV reports North Smithfield's plan, which is waiting on state approval, would utilize the Google Classroom program to offer about two hours' worth of school assignments for each snow day.  School officials say it's more difficult to engage students at the end of the year when days have to be made up to meet the 180-day requirement.
