(South Kingstown, RI) -- Rhode Island appears to be dodging a bullet with Hurricane Florence this week, and researchers at the University of Rhode Island are pointing out work they are doing on a new hurricane forecast model. Oceanography professor Dr. Isaac Ginis says a series of models he and his colleagues are developing will make forecasting the cyclones that hit New England more precise. He says currently, hurricanes that hit this area are notoriously difficult to forecast because of how erratic they are. Another issue is how quickly the short rivers of New England fill up and cause more flooding.
