(North Smithfield, RI) -- North Smithfield school officials are putting the freeze on a plan to offer "virtual snow day" instruction to students. The plan would have allowed the district to offer online instruction for up to three days, making the school district the first to take advantage of a law passed last year in the General Assembly. The action comes after the Rhode Island Department of Education decided not to recommend the school district's plan to the Council on Elementary and Secondary Education.
