Strike Looming, Providence Schools Says No Adequate Bus Substitute

(Providence, RI)  --  Providence Public Schools is sharing new information about a possible school bus driver strike.  A Frequently Asked Questions publication on ProvidenceSchools.org indicates the district reached out to a number of transportation providers in the region when administrators learned that a strike involving the city's 200 bus drivers was a possibility, and says there does not appear to be an adequate substitution.  The district says that means families will be relied upon to arrange their own transportation.  Teamsters Local 251 has threatened to strike over a contract dispute with First Student, the company that oversees school bus operations in Providence.  The strike could start as soon as Friday.
