(North Smithfield, RI) -- The North Smithfield Town Council is withdrawing support for a resolution to request a boycott of Nike products by town departments in wake of the new Colin Kaepernick advertising campaign. The vote was unanimous at Monday's meeting after the resolution, introduced by Council President John Beauregard last week, generated enormous backlash. Beauregard, a former state trooper, had publicly withdrawn his own support before last night, saying he didn't want negative attention focused on the town, but he said his opinion of Nike and Kaepernick hasn't changed.
