(Warwick, RI) -- Community College of Rhode Island is providing a progress report on its free tuition program which began last year. CCRI says nearly two-thirds of the first group of full-time students who entered right out of high school last year returned for this fall semester, and about 20 percent are on track to graduate within a two-year period. That's the demographic eligible for the Rhode Island Promise initiative. School officials note only one-thousand of the roughly 15-hundred students who went to CCRI from high school in 2017 received funding, as low-income students had their tuition and fees covered by federal Pell grants.
