(Providence, RI) -- A new poll from The Providence Journal, Rhode Island Public Radio and WLNE-TV is providing an update on several key political races and other issues. The poll shows Democratic incumbent Governor Gina Raimondo holding a 48-to-34-percent lead over Republican challenger Allan Fung, with independent candidate Joe Trillo getting five percent of the vote. Incumbent Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse holds a 57-to-33-percent lead over Republican challenger Robert Flanders. A majority of voters -- 77 percent -- said they would favor a 250-million-dollar bond issue to fund school repairs. Only 21 percent said they approve of the way House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello is handling his job as Rhode Island House Speaker, while 38 percent said they disapprove.
