Proposed Tower's Developer Makes Case For Zoning

(Providence, RI)  --  New York developer Jason Fane addressed the public in Providence on Monday to promote his proposed new skyscraper.  New renderings were shown for the 530-foot luxury apartment tower, which needs a zoning variance because of its height and its location, on former Interstate 195 land.  The Providence City Council Ordinance Committee also heard mixed public testimony, from those who said the tower is in the wrong place and does not address the city's need for affordable housing, and from labor industry officials who said this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to bring in an influx of jobs.  No vote on the necessary zoning change was taken by the city council committee last night.
