(Providence, RI) -- A luxury yacht captain is pleading guilty in connection to the death of a boater off the Rhode Island coast. The U.S. Justice Department says Cooper "Chick" Bacon of Cape May, New Jersey pleaded guilty in federal court in Providence yesterday to a charge of seaman's manslaughter stemming from the death of Walter Krupinski of Norwalk, Connecticut. Prosecutors say Bacon, a licensed captain who was piloting an unregistered yacht from Newport to a boat show in Stamford, Connecticut, collided with a powerboat off the coast of Westerly in September of 2015. Krupinski was the only person aboard the powerboat. Bacon is scheduled to be sentenced in January.
