East Providence Has First Elected Mayor

(Providence, RI)  --  Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza warded off a challenge from independent candidate Dianne Witman on Tuesday.  Elorza secured 66 percent of the vote with over 40-thousand votes cast, opposite 34 percent of the vote for Witman.  Elsewhere, Warwick Mayor Joseph Solomon, Woonsocket Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt, Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena and Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien, all Democrats, all defeated their challengers.  East Providence has its first-ever elected mayor after Roberto DaSilva beat James Russo in a non-partisan race.
