(Providence, RI) -- A North Providence dentist is avoiding prison time in a tax evasion case. The U.S. Justice Department says Lawrence Stephenson of Lincoln was sentenced to three years of probation and 280 hours of community service each year involving the provision of free dental care, on Tuesday. The DOJ says Stephenson admitted to diverting and failing to report as much as one-point-two-million dollars in payments made to his business.
