Council Has Final Vote For Providence Skyscraper

(Providence, RI)  --  Tonight's the night for the Providence City Council to make a final decision on the proposed 46-story Fane Tower.  The council gave its initial approval last week to a zoning ordinance variation that would allow the proposed luxury apartment skyscraper to go on former I-195 land on Dyer Street, which is needed because of the proposed height of the building.  Several city leaders and residents joined the Providence Preservation Society at a press conference on Monday to voice their opposition.  Meanwhile, Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza issued a statement yesterday indicating he'll support the project on certain conditions, including allowing the city to have final approval of the design.
