(Hopkinton, RI) -- The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is adding some forestland in South County to its portfolio. The DEM announced last week that it has acquired 58 acres in Hopkinton abutting the Rockville Management Area from a couple for 250-thousand dollars in funding from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The department says the property was the last-remaining unprotected frontage on Blue Pond and that the pond is now nearly fully-encircled by conservation land.
