(Narragansett, RI) -- The federal government shutdown is affecting the Vineyard Wind energy project for Massachusetts. Public hearings run by the federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management are being postponed, including one for today in Narragansett and one that was scheduled for yesterday in New Bedford, Mass. More hearings are in danger of being cancelled next week on the Cape and Islands. The meetings are for gathering input on an environmental impact statement, which is a required step in the federal approval process.
