Attorney General Consumer Alert Regarding Gas Outage

(Providence, RI)  --  Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha is issuing a consumer alert for residents affected by the Aquidneck Island gas outage.  The A.G.'s office is warning people to beware of any unsolicited calls or emails from individuals posing as government officials, insurance adjustors or utility company representatives, and to avoid providing personal information such as a Social Security number or date of birth.  People are also being reminded that businesses are prohibited from increasing prices for items during a declared state of emergency, and that they can report price-gouging to the state consumer protection unit.
