(Woonsocket, RI)--The city of Woonsocket is joining a national lawsuit against the makers and distributors of opioids.The Valley Breeze reports the Woonsocket City Council voted unanimously on Monday to join the suit for their role in the ongoing opioid abuse crisis.Several-dozen other municipalities in the state first filed a federal lawsuit about a year ago.Data compiled by a state task force indicates Woonsocket has the highest rate of drug overdose deaths of any municipality in the state, with 87 reported ODs between 2014 and 2017.
