State GOP, Upset Over Abortion Vote, Considering Sports-Betting Lawsuit

(Providence, RI)--The Rhode Island Republican Party is considering filing a lawsuit to stop sports-betting in the state.GOP chairman Brandon Bell released a statement on Thursday ahead of the House's vote on an abortion rights bill, comparing legislative efforts to protect constitutional rights on that topic with what he believes is a violation of the state constitution.Bell said sports-betting should have been approved by voters, not lawmakers.Senate President Dominick Ruggerio called the move a stunt and said, considering it was almost a year ago that sports-wagering was signed into law, the timing is "very curious".
