(Providence, RI)--Rhode Island House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello is introducing new legislation aimed at increasing school safety.The bill would create assessment teams in schools to identify potential threatening behavior and would direct school districts to adopt policies for assessment and intervention.A statement from the Rhode Island House indicates the legislation is based on the recommendation of a school safety panel led by the state police to develop statewide policy for school safety.Mattiello met with state police last summer to discuss the issue following the school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
