There’s no doubt our country is dealing with a strong political divide, and while states overall may swing red or blue, there will always be areas within a state that buck the norm. But there will also be areas that are totally intolerant of other political beliefs, and now a new report reveals which area is the worst.
According to a report by “The Atlantic,” the most politically intolerant folks tend to be “whiter, more highly educated, older, more urban, and more partisan.” More specifically, the report notes the area of the country least open to other people’s political opinions is Suffolk County of Massachusetts, which includes the Boston-Cambridge-Newton area, which is described as being filled with “woke white liberals.”
In that area, nine out of ten couples have the same partisan beliefs, and 80% of the neighborhoods are described as “politically homogenous.” The county is definitely Democrat, with all three districts represented by democrats, and only 5% of the area identifying Republican.
- As for the least politically intolerant area of the country, that would be in Watertown, New York, east of Lake Ontario, where folks are likely to have varying political opinions. The area isn’t big though, with a population of only about 27,000.
