Central Falls Mayor Upset About ICE Detainees At Detention Center

(Central Falls, RI) -- Protesters in Central Falls last night called for the shutdown of the private detention center that is once again housing detainees from ICE. The protest followed an emergency meeting at which Central Falls Mayor James Diossa and City Council President Maria Rivera pledged to close the Wyatt Detention Facility.  Diossa said at the meeting that he would not stand by as the facility attempts to profit from the exploitation of human misery and the separation of families. The center had previously contracted with the federal immigration enforcement agency, but that ended after a detainee died there in 2008.
