(Providence, RI)--Providence College's president is stepping down at the end of his term next year. That announcement was made on Friday regarding the Reverend Brian Shanley, who will have served as president for 15 years, making him the longest-serving in the college's history.A Providence Business News report indicates the school's board of trustees had recommended Shanley serve another term, but that the Dominican Friars Province of St. Joseph, which oversees the school, mandated the step-down, saying that he had served long enough, according to a PC spokesperson.
