A contraceptive company in Argentina has taken the next big step in the quest to promote consensual sex. Tulipan’s developed what it calls the “consent pack,” and the only way to open it is if both of the horny people involvedopen it together. How it works is there are pressure points on the sides of the packet. A total of four hands is needed to press them all simultaneously and release the magic inside.
For the moment, Tulipan plans to give them out for free in bars and events throughout Buenos Aries as part of a campaign to make consensual sex clearer. As the company puts it:
"Tulipan has always spoken of safe pleasure but for this campaign we understood that we had to talk about the most important thing in every sexual relationship - pleasure is possible only if you both give your consent first.”
Even though the package clearly reads “If it’s not a yes, it’s a no,” the success of the campaign is up in the air. Will the package be self-explanatory enough to open? Will people want to go through the extra effort? What if one of the parties has an amputated hand, and can’t operate the other pressure point?
Either way, attempting to increase the condom use is a good thing. Why? Just 14.5% of Argentinian men say they wrap their rascal regularly. The “occasional” condom crowd weighs in at 60%, but it’s the “never use a condom” number that’s most staggering. That percentage checks in at 20.5%.
