Navy Holds Ceremony For Veteran Who Perished In Submarine Disaster

(Cumberland, RI)--The Navy last weekend honored a veteran who died in the deadliest submarine disaster ever.The Valley Breeze reports a ceremony was held on April 13th at Resurrection Cemetery in Cumberland for veteran Maurice Jaquay, who has a marker at the cemetery.His family was presented with a flag.The USS Thresher sank off the coast of Cape Cod in 1963.Jaquay served for four years in the Navy after joining in 1955 but never received military funeral honors because he was considered a civilian when the sub sunk, as he was working as a sonar engineer for Raytheon.
