Mayors Oppose Worker Contract Extension Bill

(Providence, RI)--Rhode Island mayors and other municipal leaders expressed opposition on Monday to a bill they say gives lifetime contracts to municipal workers and teachers.The House is anticipated to vote today on the bill which extends contracts during negotiations.The mayors said there will be no incentives for unions to make concessions if the bill passes, and that it will cause local taxes to go up.Similar legislation was previously vetoed by Governor Gina Raimondo.
