Senate Approves Indefinite Contract, Firefighter Overtime Bills

(Providence, RI)--The Rhode Island Senate is approving a package of bills backed by labor unions that have already received House approval. The bills passed yesterday include several that would indefinitely extend contracts for police, fire, municipal employee and teachers while negotiations are taking place.Governor Gina Raimondo vetoed a similar evergreen bill in 2017 but a spokesperson tells WPRI-TV she is leaning towards signing this version. The other bills would mandate overtime pay for firefighters who average 42 hours per week.
