(Providence, RI)--The ACLU of Rhode Island is filing a "friend of the court" brief for what it says is an important immigration case.Cristian Aguasvivas, who is seeking asylum, is wanted for allegedly killing a police officer in the Dominican Republic. The ACLU says the federal Board of Immigration Appeals concluded that Aguasvivas should not be extradited because of an international treaty regarding sending someone back to a country where they face torture, but the State Department says it doesn't have to abide by that.Aguasvivas is currently being held at the Wyatt Detention Facility in Central Falls, according to a report from The Providence Journal.
