Second Amendment Sanctuary Resolution Suffers Initial Defeat In Tiverton

(Tiverton, RI)--The town of Tiverton defeated a resolution on Monday to become the state's newest "Second Amendment sanctuary."The town council voted four-to-three against a resolution after more than an hour of public comment from a number of gun rights supporters. However, that vote could change as the Newport Daily News reports council president Robert Coulter called for an upcoming special meeting to consider a plan from Councilwoman Nancy Driggs to change her vote after changing some wording to the resolution. At least four municipalities in the state have passed 2nd Amendment sanctuary resolutions similar to the one considered in Tiverton, which would have supported the police department's discretion to enforce gun laws and prevent the town from storing certain seized weapons.
