Taylor Swift is once again getting political. As Pride month kicked off this weekend, the singer took to social media to direct her followers to a petition she started urging the passage of the Equality Act, which includes gender identity and sexual orientation as protected classes under the federal Civil Rights Act.
She also shared a letter she sent to Tennessee Sen.Lamar Alexander urging him to vote in support of the bill. "I respect your position in our country and your ability to really impact positive moves forward," she wrote. "Please, please think about the lives you could change for the better if you were to vote to support the Equality Act in the Senate and prohibit this harsh and unfair discrimination."
Taylor singer also called out President Trump in her post, writing, "I personally reject the President's stance that his administration, 'supports equal treatment of all,' but that the Equality Act, 'in its current form is filled with poison pills that threaten to undermine parental and conscience rights.’”
