(Providence, RI)--The Rhode Island Senate is advancing a bill that would allow the state to override local zoning laws pertaining to development on former I-195 land.Senate President Dom Ruggerio's legislation to create special districts for state-owned land in the amount twenty-plus acres was passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday and is expected to get a full Senate vote next week.Ruggerio has been frustrated by the slow process of development on the 195 land in Providence, in particular the proposed 46-story Fane Tower.
