Tom Seaver Fans “Terrifically” Ticked At Tom Brady

New England Patriot QB Tom Brady has as many fans as he does haters. And this time? Hardcore baseball fans have their panties all bunched up over Brady’s latest trademark maneuver. According to the Gerber Law Firm,he’s has applied for a trademark of the name “Tom Terrific.” Thing is? There’s another “Tom” that was pretty damn good, and New York Mets fans are screaming about it.

Tom Seaver started his professional pitching career with the Mets in 1967. That’s where he became known as “Tom Terrific.” He just didn’t have the foresight to trademark the nickname to profit from it. After a decade in The Big Apple, he finished off with a few years in Cincinnati, Chicago, and Boston, and eventually was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame in 1992.

Sadly, since Seaver’s now fighting a battle with dementia, it’s safe to say he won’t personally be waging any challenges to the trademark. The Mets could jump in if they think they’ve got a shot at taking the name back. Otherwise, the only other thing that could stand in Brady’s way is the fact that in the 1950s there was the “Tom Terrific” cartoon. But since nobody remembers that it existed, it’s not likely to happen either. Of course, Brady could do the classy thing, and trademark “Tremendous Tom,” but why would he? You can pretty much chalk this one up as another win for “TB12.”
