Big Papi Recovering After Being Shot In Dominican Republic

Former Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz is reportedly in stable condition and in recovery after being shot in the Dominican Republic. The incident, which is being described as an ambush, happened at a nightclub in Ortiz's hometown of Santo Domingo last night.

The 43-year-old was reportedly shot in the back and it came out through his stomach. Ortiz underwent emergency surgery, but is reported to be in stable condition – as are two others who were also injured.

According to witnesses, the shooter was encircled by crowd of onlookers and beaten before being arrested. Someone else that’s got Big Papi’s back? The Red Sox, who have issued a statement that says in part, "We have offered David's family all available resources to aid in his recovery and will continue to keep them in our hearts."

  • Nicknamed "Big Papi," Ortiz played 20 seasons in the MLB, 14 of which were with the Boston Red Sox. He was a ten-time All-Star and won three World Series championships with the Red Sox.
