(Newport, RI)--A tech support telemarketing scheme is landing a college intern from India in federal prison.The U.S. Justice Department says Bishwajeet Kumar Jha was sentenced yesterday to five years in prison for leading a group of college students in Newport to participate in a scheme that duped about two-dozen people out of nearly one-million dollars.Prosecutors say the Newport-based operation was tied to a large-scale telemarketing scheme out of India.Jha and several other interns from the same college in India were in the U.S. on hospitality industry internships.
