Senate Committee Passes Sex Abuse Lawsuit Legislation

(Providence, RI)--The Senate and House versions of a bill to give victims of sex abuse more time to file legal action are clashing against each other.State Representative Carol Hagan McEntee, the lead sponsor of the House version, said she does not approve of the version that passed the Senate Judiciary Committee last night, and she says abuse victims don't, either. At issue is language that would allow victims to sue within a seven-year window from the time they discover the past abuse that happened to them.Critics of the Senate version believe the Catholic Church influenced the watering-down of the bill.
