State Budget On The Move

(Providence, RI)--The full Rhode Island House is scheduled to vote later this week on a budget that was majority-approved in committee on Friday. The nine-point-nine-billion-dollar budget cuts Governor Gina Raimondo's plan to expand free tuition to students at Rhode Island College and adults at Community College of Rhode Island, but it does provide more funding for free public school pre-kindergarten.Legislators declined Raimondo's proposal to legalize recreational marijuana in the budget but did OK a half-dozen additional medical marijuana retail dispensaries.Taxes were added and subtracted: the budget includes a new tax on opioid manufacturers and distributors, while it also gets rid of a tax on feminine hygiene products.
