Providence Homestead Exemption Bill Passes Senate Committee

(Providence, RI)--A controversial new tax proposal in the city of Providence is moving ahead.The Rhode Island Senate Committee on Housing and Municipal Government approved a bill on Thursday that would allow the city to put in place a graduated homestead exemption, setting up a full vote in the Senate next Tuesday.At the same time last night, the Providence City Council passed a resolution urging the General Assembly to pass the bill.The homestead exemption has been proposed following a revaluation affecting home values in parts of the city.
