As it turns out, “millions” of the businesses you see listed on Google Maps are fakes.The Wall Street Journal found 11-million of them had been posted by “competitors” to lure customers away from legit businesses. Some of these listings are also bait to get customers to come to them rather than a “real” store, where they’d be charged less. After the WSJ story hit, Google responded by taking down the listings cited in the story and employed new “safeguards” for “high-risk categories” to protect consumers.
