Trump Lashes Out At Congressman, City Of Baltimore

President Trump is facing some criticism after taking to Twitter to label Baltimore "disgusting." In a series of tweets on Saturday, Trump said Democratic Congressman Elijah Cummings'home district in Baltimore is in far worse condition than the migrant detention centers along the U.S. border with Mexico.

He accused Cummings of “bullying” the Border Patrol over what some claim are inhumane conditions at the border. Trump called Baltimore a “"disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess." The mayor of Baltimore came to the defense of his city and Cummings, calling the president "a disappointment to the people of Baltimore, our country, and to the world."

Senator Chris Van Hollen, took it a step further, calling Trump a "racist bully." A number of Democrats have agreed with that assessment. And by the way? Trump hasn’t backed down. Instead, he says he wants someone to explain to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that "there is nothing wrong with bringing out the very obvious fact that Congressman Elijah Cummings has done a very poor job for his district and Baltimore."

  • But that’s not all - the President chided Dems for always “playing the race card” and added, “in fact they have done so little for our Nation's great African American people. Now, lowest unemployment in U.S. history and only getting better. Elijah Cummings has failed badly."
  • Trump added "there is nothing racist in stating plainly what most people already know" when it comes to Cummings and went on to say that Pelosi's district in San Francisco “isn't recognizable lately” and something should be done about it. According to the President, Democrats "should stop wasting time on the Witch Hunt Hoax and start focusing on our Country!"
  • Among his critics? Congressman – and presidential candidate –Bernie Sanders. Saying he respects Mr. Cummings, Sanders noted that “it's unbelievable that we have a President of the United States who attacks American cities.” The problem with that statement? The fact that Sanders himself once compared West Baltimore to a “Third World Country.”
