(Providence, RI)--Longtime Providence City Council member and former council president Luis Aponte officially resigned on Tuesday.A day before, the Rhode Island Attorney General's office said Aponte's resignation was part of a plea deal that was reached in an embezzlement case.The city council will have to declare a special election for the Ward 10 seat.
