(Providence, RI)--Another state legislative hearing following the death of a child this year. The House Committee on Oversight met on Thursday to review recommendations from the Child Fatality Review Panel, issued after nine-year-old Zha-Nae Rothgeb died at the home of her adoptive mother in Warwick in January.Outgoing DCYF Director Trista Piccola was questioned by lawmakers about her move to add nearly two-dozen hires on Wednesday; she had told the committee in June that she was not in need. The union representing DCYF workers rallied outside the State House before the hearing, calling for lower caseloads.
