(Providence, RI)--Rhode Island election officials are considering possible alternatives for transmitting election results after a new report about election security. The election systems in a number of states, including RI, have been found to have been logged on to the internet, which potentially exposes them to cyber-attacks, according to an investigation from Vice.com.The story notes that the reporting system for all of Rhode Island was found online due to the way the state uniquely conducts its elections from a centralized office.Rhode Island began using voting machines equipped with modems several years ago to try and speed up the publishing of results.
