Nathan Carman Testifies In Insurance Trial 

(Providence, RI) -- Long-anticipated testimony came on Thursday from Nathan Carman in his civil trial versus insurance companies over a payout for a sunken boat. Carman, of Vermont, filed a claim after the boat that he departed on from Rhode Island waters with his mother in September of 2016 sank; Nathan Carman survived; Linda Carman is presumed dead. Nathan answered a line of questioning about the modifications he made to the vessel as the insurance company seeks to avoid paying his claim; he also answered questions about his final moments with his mother. Carman's relatives are seeking to block his inheritance from his mother. 

Man Who Sent Threats To Professor Agrees To Guilty Plea 

(Boston, MA) -- A North Kingstown man is agreeing to plead guilty to threatening a Harvard professor. The Department of Justice in Massachusetts says a sentence of 21 months will be recommended for Matthew Haviland on charges of stalking and transmitting a threat in interstate commerce. Haviland sent the threats in March to a professor who had published and spoken in favor of abortion rights; he referenced abortion in some of his messages. 

Child Porn Producer Sentenced To 40 Years 

(Providence, RI) -- A former Warwick man is being sentenced to 40 years in prison for producing and possessing child pornography. The U.S. Justice Department in Providence says Jordan Monroe repeatedly recorded himself raping an unconscious minor and possessed one of the largest collections of child porn ever seized by law enforcement in Rhode Island. Monroe was sentenced on Thursday. 

Flow Nightclub Agrees To Stay Closed Through Weekend 

(Providence, RI) -- The Providence nightclub where a shooting took place earlier this week is agreeing to stay closed through the upcoming weekend. One man was seriously injured at Club Flow on Cranston Street on Monday, resulting in two arrests. Per the city's licensing board, Flow will stay closed until at least Monday as Providence police seek an additional suspect. Officials say the club will be able to open earlier if the third suspect is apprehended. 

Trump Tweets Support For Spicer On DWTS 

(Undated) -- President Trump weighed in Thursday night on the appearance of Rhode Island native Sean Spicer, Trump's former press secretary, going on Dancing with the Stars. Trump said Spicer will do great and called him a terrific person who loves the country dearly. DWTS host Tom Bergeron tweeted that he had hoped the new season would be a break from the exhausting political climate and be free of divisive bookings from any party affiliations. 

Hasbro Buying Entertainment Company E-One 

(Pawtucket, RI) -- Peppa Pig is now a Hasbro brand. The Pawtucket toymaker announced yesterday that it is adding media and entertainment company E-One for four-billion dollars, which adds the brand of the preschool animated show, as well as another animated children's series, PJ Masks. Hasbro says the deal will allow its existing brands to be marketed in more media formats.
