Most meteorologists agree that nuking a hurricane won't stop it and could in fact make things worse. Axios reports President President Trump reportedly asked about the idea of dropping bombs into the eye of a forming hurricane back in 2017 during a national security briefing. While the White House hasn't confirmed the report, it's not the first time the idea has surfaced.
Government scientists reportedly discussed the idea back in the 1950s. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has a webpage exploring the topic, which speculates a bomb lacks the energy to affect a storm and that the radioactive fallout would be quickly spread by trade winds.
