(Providence, RI)--The Rhode Island ACLU and Rhode Island Legal Services are filing a public records lawsuit against the Providence School District.The suit alleges the school district is withholding information about extensive violations of the rights of English Language Learner students that led to a settlement between the school system and the U.S. Justice Department over a year ago.The suit says the city of Providence refused to provide a copy of documents from the DOJ earlier this year, claiming attorney-client privilege and that the records were preliminary.
